Google TV gives 130 channels for free. Only, not for Poles
Google TV is an operating system embedded in TVs from many manufacturers, set-top boxes and projectors. You can install your own VoD applications there, but you can also access free Google TV channels.
Google TV adds 10 free channels – it has over 130 of them in total
Google TV has announced the launch of 10 new free channels, expanding the variety of content available to users. That’s more than 130 TV stations, up from 77 last year.
June update introduces a variety of channels Free Advertising Supported Television (FAST)including:
- FilmRise Western: A channel dedicated to classic western films.
- ION Plus: Offers a wide range of entertainment programs.
- Johnny Carson TV: Presents episodes of the legendary talk show.
- Noticias Telemundo Ahora: Provides the latest news in Spanish.
- Property & Reno: Focuses on real estate and renovation programming.
- Real Disaster Channel: Covering real disaster events.
- Supermarket Sweep: Airs episodes of the popular game show.
- The FBI Files: Deals with real FBI cases.
- World’s Wildest Police Videos: Presents dramatic police footage.
- Yahoo Finance: Provides financial news and analysis.
Google’s free TV channels are available in the “Live” tab, making them easily accessible without having to install additional applications. However, channels from Google’s partners, such as Tubi, Plex, Pluto TV and Haystack, require installing the appropriate applications and, in some cases, creating a free account.
Another Google advertising space
The introduction of these new channels is not only about providing more content to users; it is also strategic move by Google aimed at generating additional advertising revenue. The company recently announced a new Google TV network designed specifically for advertisers targeting FAST channels. FAST TV itself is an acronym for Free Ad-supported Streaming TV, which means a linear TV service distributed for free but injected with advertising.
Google TV Live — when in Poland?
The Google TV system takes several forms depending on the region. In Europe, it is neither the most advanced version, nor, fortunately, the lowest. This does not change the fact that we are cut off from some services available in other markets. At the moment Live TV recommendations are available to US residents only. However, Google only recently remembered the existence of Poland and introduced Pixel smartphones to our beautiful country.
The company still has some catching up to do before it can start offering Polish viewers free TV. It’s worth mentioning the bizarre language lock on the manufacturer’s smart speakers, where the voice assistant still only appears in foreign languages, while on TVs and phones we’ve been able to communicate in Polish for a long time.
