GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards will use a new power connector. This will also be 16-pin, but compliant with the PCIe 6.0 standard.
The premiere of the new generation of graphics cards, including the GeForce RTX 50 series, is fast approaching. For this reason, more and more information about them is emerging. For now, they are unconfirmed, but they come from quite reliable sources, so there may actually be something to it. According to the latest, Blackwell series cards will receive a new power connector.
GeForce RTX 50 with a new power connector
The source of the latest information is again the YouTuber from the Moore’s Law is Dead channel. He contacted four different people who provided him with interesting information about the upcoming GeForce RTX 50 (Blackwell) series. If they are true, we must prepare for another change of the power connector.
The first source is one of the graphics card manufacturers. He reported that NVIDIA is considering using a new 16-pin power connector in all RTX 50 series cards, including weaker ones such as GeForce RTX 5060. The new standard is to be compatible with PCIe 6.0 (12VHPWR to PCIe 5.0).
The information is partially confirmed by a source associated with one of the power supply manufacturers. Moore’s Law is Dead reported that companies are already preparing models for the premiere of RTX 50 series graphics, because many users may decide to replace older power supplies.
Interestingly, the same reports do not apply to AMD. Reds will probably stick with traditional 8-pin power connectors.
