Garmin could bring satellite communication, but be careful
Relayed by Android Authority, a user of X (formerly Twitter) would have found the trace of a collaboration between Google and Garmin to make emergency SOS available via satellite on Google Messages.
With the iPhone 14, Apple has made emergency SOS possible through satellite communication. And this in order to access the necessary relief in the most remote places on the planet, if such is your need at the moment. For the moment, this function is only available in 14 countries, including France.
Opposite, Android phones should also benefit from it in the near future. Snapdragon has also presented a breakthrough in this area with the Snapdragon Satellite, which could land on our first smartphones from September 2023, he promised at the MWC last February.
The Garmin Solution
Android Authority
nevertheless relays another beam of information, which must however be taken with a grain of salt. The media quotes a twitter user – unknown to the battalion – who would have found the trace of a potential collaboration between Google and Garmin within the Google Messages application.

This finding suggests that Google Messages would benefit from satellite communication, relying on Garmin solutions. As a reminder, this American brand specializing in GPS navigation systems and other sports watches, relies on the Iridium satellite network to offer its Garmin Response function.
This function is primarily used to contact an emergency service if necessary. Incidentally, Iridium is not unknown to our services. It is this same company that Qualcomm uses for its Snapdragon Satellite function. It has a network of 66 satellites linked together to cover the entire globe at all times.
Garmin, wide coverage around the world
Where Google Messages would be strong is that Garmin’s emergency service covers over 200 countries worldwide and supports over 210 languages and dialects. If the Mountain View company is really brought to collaborate with, then it could suddenly make its satellite function available to a large number of people.
Nevertheless, and as specified above, all of these elements should be treated with caution. For what ? Because the user X quoted by Android Authority is simply unknown. Moreover, he too delays his discoveries, and explains in a second post that unearthed items may change later.
