Facebook has made a mess in another country. He must now pay the fine

South Korea imposed a huge fine of $15 million on Meta, the owner of Facebook. What was it about?

The whole thing comes down to… misuse of confidential data for advertising.

According to the data protection agency in Seoul, South Korea is demanding such a high fine because it believes that Facebook collected confidential user data and passed it on to advertisers without a legal basis. The American technology giant obtained information from 980,000 users in Korea. It was a real mine of data: from religion, through political views, to sexuality. All of them were not accompanied by proper consent from users, according to the Personal Data Protection Commission.

The agency reported that this information was sent to 4,000 advertisers.

Meta was found to be analyzing user behavior data, such as the pages they liked and the ads they clicked on on Facebook. She also created and managed advertising topics related to confidential information.
