Experts have chosen the best developing city in Poland
It is always worth bragging about your achievements, and this time it was no different. In the latest report, Kraków was indicated as the best developing city in Poland. Unfortunately, it also has some work to do.
The city that is among the top cities in terms of the overall index is Kraków. It is also a leader in demographics and economic competitiveness. Such data was provided by the latest report, prepared by the Association of Polish Cities. The results of the report were presented during Wednesday’s session of the city council.
The residents of the city of Krakow have reasons to be happy. According to the report, the capital of Małopolska is a leader in almost every analyzed sphere and has very solid development attitudes, both economic and social. Interestingly, the biggest advantage of Krakow over other cities is demographic. No wonder, as an academic center, it attracts mainly young people. According to data, over the last 10 years, it has attracted over 100 thousand new residents in this way. All these factors favor the development of the city.
Today’s demographic situation in the short term is very good. Young people believe in linking their fate with Krakow.
– said Janusz Szewczuk, advisor to the ZMP.
According to the ZMP report, Kraków demonstrates quite a high level of professional activity of its residents, including women. Other characteristic features of the capital of Małopolska are: a high level of entrepreneurship, competitiveness of local companies and an attractive job market.
But not everything is so idyllic. There is one issue that has been keeping officials awake at night for some time now. They were not going to keep quiet about it during the meeting.
The flaws in this image include the city’s debt, budget imbalance, high housing prices, and the very heavy congestion of the transport system.
– said Ryszard Grobelny from ZMP.
The state of local finances is the only area where Krakow records values below average. There is a significant risk that the planned expenditure will be exceeded this year as well. It is likely that 2025 will also trigger increased credit demand. Krakow’s budget for 2024 assumes that the city’s revenues will amount to PLN 8.23 billion, and expenditures PLN 8.548 billion.
