Earth loses its second moon. Soon he will disappear, you will never guess when he will come back
Asteroid 2024 PT5, which was discovered this year, will soon leave Earth’s orbit. It is called a mini-moon or Earth’s second moon. Scientists have determined when he will return.

The mini-moon comes from Earth’s matter
Asteroid 2024 PT5 was created from material ejected from Earth’s moon as a result of ancient collisions that contributed to the formation of craters on its surface. The phenomenon itself took place 4 billion years ago, when Theia collided with Earth and as a result of this phenomenon, a large amount of hot mass of material appeared, which later cooled and formed our moon and other asteroids, including 2024 PT5, which was discovered in August 2024 r.
This mini-moon comes from the Arjuna asteroid belt, which is located about 150 million kilometers from the Sun and moves around its orbit. Under certain conditions, objects from this asteroid belt can approach Earth at a distance of 4.5 million kilometers at a speed of 3,540 km/h.
This distance and speed are the criteria for officially calling such an object a “mini-moon” in the light of science. On September 29, 2024, asteroid 2024 PT5 began orbiting Earth and will leave our orbit on November 25, 2024, to return to the Arjuna asteroid belt.
This is the fifth recorded mini-moon in history to orbit Earth. After November 25, 2024, it will begin to move away from Earth, temporarily approaching it in January 2025, but we can expect its return in 2055.
