Drivers don't do this, but they should. The effectiveness is low
In Poland, sectional speed measurements are a much more effective tool in detecting violations of regulations than standard speed cameras. However, the problem is the collection of fines.
In 2023, the systems of the General Road Transport Inspectorate detected as many as 920,637 violations of regulations in the form of exceeding the speed limit. Sectional speed measurements have proven to be particularly effective – there are much fewer of them than traditional speed cameras, and they are responsible for as much as 30%. all cases. The problem is the effectiveness of collecting fines – TVN24 reports.
Mandates in Poland are not very effective
Each sectional speed measurement detected on average as many as 9,000. violations such as speeding. For speed cameras, this result is only 1,300 cases. According to the GITD spokesman, such a disproportion results from the fact that sectional speed measurements have recently appeared on motorways and expressways, where traffic intensity is higher.
Our internal analyzes show that the number of accidents, i.e. road incidents in which someone was injured, decreased on these road sections by an average of 97 percent
– says Wojciech Król, spokesman for GITD.
However, there is another problem. It's about the effectiveness in collecting fines, which is only 60%. According to Wojciech Król, the culprit is outdated regulations that were created in the 1990s and do not keep up with the development of technology. Another problem is the very long formal path, which has been significantly simplified in many European countries.
Our procedure for collecting funds requires sending statements to the car owner and finding out who was driving the car. If we identify the driver, the procedure continues. If he was behind the wheel, we have to send him a ticket. It all goes on.
– says the GITD spokesman.
