WhatsApp has started rolling out a new feature to its app that should be of interest to parents of pre-teen children. The new feature will give them more control over what their children do in the messenger.

WhatsApp introduces ‘parent managed account’. Once properly configured, it allows you to decide who can contact an underage account user and what groups they can join. Additionally, the new feature also allows the guardian to verify requests for consent to send messages from unknown contacts, as well as manage account privacy.
New parental controls and settings are secured with a parent PIN on the managed device. Only parents can access and change privacy settings, so they can tailor the experience to suit their family’s needs.
Importantly, all your child’s conversations remain private and protected by end-to-end encryption. Parents do not have access to them, just like WhatsApp. However, the guardian has control over who the conversations are with and in which groups.
How to set “parent managed account”? To do this, place your phone and your child’s phone next to each other and connect both WhatsApp accounts. After that, the caregiver will have control over the mentioned features and elements.
