The latest study, authored by a joint team of scientists from Yale University and the State University of New York. They analyzed data collected by psychology professor R. David Thomas at the University of Florida. In total, there is information on 1,300 opposite-sex couples and 27 individual studies.

According to the latest analysis by the aforementioned team, both women and men are able to not only precisely and accurately define their attractiveness, but also form relationships with people with the same self-esteem. Importantly, it is not only about how the subjects perceived themselves, but also whether this matched the group of strangers who were tasked with making an objective assessment of the beauty of the people presented.

This means that if there is someone who is considered attractive both by himself and by strangers, there is a good chance that he will end up in a relationship with someone with the same characteristics. But that’s not the only thing scientists have looked at. They also checked how the issue of self-esteem changes in relationships over time. On this basis, they indicated that the longer men are in a relationship, the more accurately they assess their attractiveness. And as the researchers add, the shift from excessive self-confidence to a more realistic view may be responsible for this change
