Do you use Blik? Police issued a warning
The police boasted in the press office about the smooth capture of the BLIK fraudster. It started with a mistake, ended with a refund.
Standard fraud, but the police knew what to do
On August 21, a resident of Knurów received a request for help from a friend BLIK loan 1300 PLN. He fell for the scam. However, when the “acquaintance” started asking for more codes, claiming technical problems, the young resident of Knurów caught wind of the scam.
The Knurów police station was immediately informed about the situation, but interestingly, this time cooperation with the police resulted in the capture of the fraudster — red-handed in Warsaw. Żoliborz police officers, acting quickly, surrounded the area of the hot ATM, took up surveillance and caught the perpetrator when he tried to use another, safely modified BLIK code.
The stolen amount was found in the criminal’s possession, the money will be returned to the fraud victim from Knurów.
Taking over a social media account is a common method
BLIK scams after taking over a social media account are one of the most common mechanisms used by criminals. However, any social engineering can be easily defeated — If someone asks you for money via instant messaging, call the person to make sure it’s really them.
