Do you have such equipment? Well, then you also have a big problem
One of the largest and most popular motherboard manufacturers has a problem. There are more and more reports on the Internet about cracked chipsets on more expensive MSI platforms.
At the end of 2021, processors debuted on the market Intel Alder Lake-S and dedicated motherboards with chipsets Intel 600 and a socket LGA 1700. In the following years, we received two more generations of this socket and refreshed platforms with systems Intel 700.
Selected MSI motherboards have a cracked chipset
However, it seems that one of the large manufacturers has a problem with its flagship chipsets Intel Z790. There are more and more reports on the Internet about problems with MSI motherboards, which will be available from the end of 2022. The first complaints appeared several months ago, but now they are increasing at an alarming rate.
Materials such as those provided by the website “Joshi Repair”who performed the analysis based on the model MSI Z790 Tomahawk WiFi, clearly indicate a cracked chipset. What appears to be a slightly scratched system turns out to be damaged under the thermal imaging camera deep silicon damage.
The reason for this situation is unclear. The problem may occur either at the stage of mounting the PCH on the PCB, or a moment later – when applying the heat sink. Anyway quality control at the factory should have caught this. The reports only concern MSI motherboards, so it is difficult to blame customers or Intel. Of course it may just be a defective batchwhich only recently hit store shelves.
Units with a damaged chipset do not boot at all, do not pass the POST screen or enter boot loops. The only solution to the problem is to replace the system, which is nothing the user can do on their own. MSI is apparently already investigating the matter, but there is no official comment yet.
