Do you have a touch screen in your car? It’s very easy to get a ticket
Can you get a ticket for using a smartphone or touchscreen while driving? It turns out that in some cases, drivers face severe penalties.
Drivers can get tickets for various things that prevent them from focusing on the road. The point is that a number of seemingly innocent actions can inadvertently lead to situations that threaten their safety and the safety of other road users. There is absolutely no arguing with that. For this reason, reckless drivers can be fined for using smartphones while driving. But that’s not all, they may also be fined for improper use of touch screens they have in their vehicles. And that shouldn’t come as a surprise either. Because how exactly does using such an interface differ from using a smartphone screen?
A built-in touch screen in a car is now practically the norm. Many modern cars have such a screen as part of their equipment. Unfortunately, focusing too much on clicking on it while driving can do more harm than good. And, in some situations, result in a fine, penalty points and a driving ban.
If using the touchscreen draws the driver’s attention too much and the application interface causes the driver to take his or her eyes off the road, this can be a very dangerous situation. There is a high risk of an accident that could lead to unpleasant consequences. Anything that distracts a driver from driving may be punished.
Rules for using touch screens
It turns out that they do exist. They can be used while driving, but only if you do it efficiently and quickly (preferably with just one look) and the weather conditions are favorable. Violating these rules can result in a fine of several hundred złoty. A German driver who laboriously changed the wiper function on his Tesla’s screen during a downpour veered off the road and hit a tree. He also had to pay dearly for such behavior – he received a 200 euro fine and a one-month driving ban. In Poland, using a phone or screen in an unauthorized manner while driving is punishable by a PLN 500 fine and 12 penalty points.
It’s also not a good idea to spend too much time fiddling with the touchscreen and checking its functions while driving. In general, a quick glance should be enough so that nothing distracts the driver. Any discovery of new functions or adjustments to the air conditioning should be done while the vehicle is stationary and in a safe place.
Look: Fine for driving with sunglasses. Up to PLN 25,000
