Disposable e-cigarettes for sand. And very well
Disposable e-cigarettes may disappear from Polish stores. Health and the environment will benefit.
Deputy Minister of Health Wojciech Konieczny announced a ban on the sale of single-use disposables. The ministry would like the ban to come into force before the holidays, but it is difficult to say whether this will be possible.
Down with disposables
There are many reasons. In the coming weeks, an EU directive will come into force that will ban the sale of flavored disposable e-cigarettes. The Ministry of Health is primarily concerned about the health of young people, among whom tasty disposable nicotine sticks are extremely popular. This is why sales of these products skyrocket during the holidays. A report by the CMR agency says that by the end of 2023, 70% of grocery stores already had some disposable products on their shelves, they were also present in newsagents, general stores and franchise stores. Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna called these products a “real plague.”
Additionally, disposable e-cigarettes are often sold on the gray market. Meanwhile, the value of those sold in 2023 was estimated at approximately PLN 2 billion. In 2024, this amount will be even higher if the ban is not introduced, because the market is still growing.
Another disadvantage of disposables is… their disposability. A person interested in electronics will still be able to use the battery installed in a disposable e-cigarette, but this is a minority of the recipients of the product. Billions of functional and potentially dangerous electronic parts end up in the trash when the nicotine load runs out. For this reason, it is better to use reusable devices.
