Disney+ is preparing an earthquake. Shared account use will end
Disney announces its fight against account sharing on the Disney+ platform. It will start in just a few weeks.
Sharing passwords has become as burdensome for owners of streaming platforms as it is for their users to pay for several different subscriptions just because none of them can offer a complete offer. However, it looks like another website will soon put an end to this nefarious practice.
Disney follows in Netflix's footsteps. No more sharing passwords
Bob IgerCEO of Disney, confirmed in an interview for CNBC that the company will soon take action against users who share their accounts on the platform against the regulations Disney+ with friends. The first large-scale actions in this direction are to begin now in June 2024, whereas in September 2024 they will be implemented on a much wider scale.
We don't yet know what exactly Disney will do to discourage users from sharing their passwords. We only know that the company plans to analyze data on the use of the service by individual users to verify whether a given subscription is actually used by people living at the same address.
We don't know yet how effective the media giant's actions will be. In case of Netflix a similar initiative was met with enormous criticism from existing users, however in the end, it contributed to increasing the number of active subscriptions. We will soon find out whether Disney will be able to announce a similar success.
