We have known for several days that Ciri will be the main character of The Witcher 4. In the trailer presented, she has become a full-fledged Witcher. She can use signs, drinks potions, and is much older, which has also resulted in changes in her appearance.
Not everyone is happy about this. Although I have the impression that the admiration outweighs the crowd, the ones who shout the loudest are those who don’t like the choice. Besides, the problem for some is not only Ciri herself, but also what she looks like. And some people complain that the heroine had to pass the grass test if she can use signs and potions. What does CD Projekt RED say about this?
Ciri was chosen before The Witcher 3
In one of the interviews, Sebastian Kalemba from CD Projekt RED admitted that the choice of Ciri was obvious for them. She is one of the main characters of the story in both games and books. What’s more, the choice was actually made about 9 years ago, before the premiere of The Witcher 3. Already then, the scriptwriters knew that they would write the next story from the perspective of Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon, because that is her full name.
There was intention behind this choice. This was far from roulette. It wasn’t accidental. I remember nine years ago we were talking about who would be next. The very, very immediate answer was Ciri. There were many reasons behind this. We have already mentioned a few. But she really deserves a stage and we want players to really experience her story because she has so much to say, so much to prove.
– said Sebastian Kalemba from CD Projekt RED.
The choice will probably remain controversial for some time. Fortunately, the developers announced that the game will explain many issues discussed by players, including the grass trial that Ciri had to pass at some point.
