Cinema City reveals a new repertoire that will soon be available to watch in IMAX halls. There were also recognized works and Polish accents.
From January 26, in all BNP Paribas IMAX cinemas in Cinema City you will again be able to see the biggest winner of this year’s Oscar nominations – Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”. In addition, there will be the Polish production “Kos”, the American comedy-drama “Winter Solstice”, the horror “2 Minutes to Hell” and the comedy series “Kogel Mogel”.
Cinema City reveals its new repertoire
“Oppenheimer” is a biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American physicist responsible for the creation of the atomic bomb, who worked as director of the Manhattan nuclear weapons development program during World War II. After the Americans used the bomb to end the war, he devoted the rest of his life to limiting nuclear weapons in the world. The film’s director, Christopher Nolan, is a fan of IMAX technology, which he has been using since “The Dark Knight” in 2008. This format provides exceptional image and sound quality as well as spectacular visual effects. Nolan also prefers traditional film methods and, as he emphasizes, the key nuclear explosion scene was created without the use of CGI.
“Blackbird” is a Polish production with an all-star cast that combines genres – it is also a historical film with a strong action cinema accent. The work was appreciated at the Gdynia film festival and awarded the Golden Lion. It is the spring of 1794, and Poland is boiling. General Tadeusz “Kos” Kościuszko returns to the country and plans to start an uprising against the Russians, mobilizing the Polish nobility and peasants. He is accompanied by his faithful friend and former slave, Domingo. Following Kościuszko’s trail is the ruthless Russian cavalry captain, Dunin, who wants to capture the general at all costs before he starts a national rebellion. The screen stars Bartosz Bielenia, Jacek Braciak, Robert Więckiewicz, Jason Mitchell, Agnieszka Grochowska and Andrzej Seweryn. The film was directed by Paweł Maślona.
“Winter Solstice”, an American comedy-drama in which circumstances bring three completely different people together, forcing them to spend Christmas together at school. 1970, a lonely teacher doesn’t go anywhere for the holidays, he stays at school to look after students who can’t go home. After a few days, only one remains – a troublemaking 15-year-old who is at risk of expulsion for terrible behavior. They are joined by a cook whose son was recently killed in Vietnam. The three of them face the challenge of spending 2 weeks alone in their own company.
Horror “2 Minutes to Hell” is based on the best elements of the genre. After the mysterious death of her father, whom she has not seen for years, the heroine of the film inherits an old, run-down bar in the middle of nowhere. Wanting to find out why her father abandoned her when she was still a child, she goes on a journey into the unknown. While searching for the truth, he discovers that the abandoned premises hide more than just a family secret. It is a curse hanging over the building that binds its owner to an ancient creature called the Baghead. Whoever enters into a pact with the demon becomes the guardian of its power, which allows it to summon the dead for exactly two minutes.
