China can handle it. Their new arrangement looks great
Although the Chinese are not good at designing their own CPUs and GPUs, the situation on the SSD market is completely different. This is proven by the latest InnoGrit controller.
It looks like we will soon be facing a fierce battle on the SSD market. So far, all consumer semiconductor media with an interface PCI Express 5.0 they used the company's power-hungry and hot controller Phison, more precisely the E26 model. However, the competition already has its own, better solutions ready.
The Chinese controller offers performance of up to 14.2 GB/s
Just a moment ago we informed you about Korean SK hynix Platinum P51, which is equipped with the proprietary Alistar controller. Now it's time for China and the company Yingren Technologyknown to us as InnoGrit.
InnoGrit YRS820 is an eight-channel controller based on the architecture RISC-V. It offers a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface and memory support 3D TLC and QLC NAND 2667 MT/s and supports capacities up to 8TB. Importantly, we are talking about low operating temperatures. The manufacturer says directly that new media will not need fans.
Demonstration SSD equipped with the discussed system and 232-layer 3D TLC NAND chips from YMTC reached speeds of… 14.2 GB/s for reading and 12.4 GB/s for sequential writing and 2,000,000 IOPS for reading and 1,500,000 IOPS for random writing. This is a very good result.
The InnoGrit YRS820 system has already entered mass production, but it has not been revealed when we can expect the media equipped with it. However, it must be assumed that the debut will first take place in China. What's more, even at a later date Typical Chinese brands will use this system.
