Brave fraud in Krakow. It started with a popular application

The scam started on a dating app

A 42-year-old Italian met a woman who claimed to be from Singapore via a dating application. After a few months of romance, it turned out that the woman only wanted to extort money from him. And it must be admitted that she managed to get an absurdly high amount of PLN 1.7 million from her lover.

Fraud of PLN 1.7 million. How did it happen?

Shortly after the exchange of messages, the woman suggested the man invest in cryptocurrencies and persuaded him to transfer funds to a special investment platform. Thanks to this, the Italian got a chance to get rich. Yes, at least he thought at first, when he received a link from the woman and created an account on the platform. From November last year until January 2026, an Italian citizen made transfers several times, for a total amount of PLN 1.7 million.

Error and blocked page

He only realized that he had fallen victim to fraud at the end of January. After logging in to the platform, an unidentified error occurred. Then, information appeared on the website that it had been blocked, but there was one way to unblock it – just transfer the appropriate amount to the given account. However, the man realized that something was wrong and that the woman he met through a dating application had cheated on him. He reported the entire case at the police station in Krakow.

The police remind people to be careful when using dating applications and instant messengers. Fraudsters have no scruples and will do a lot to rob us of our savings and extort as much money as possible.
