Miliardy trafią dla TSMC. Chodzi o produkcję półprzewodników

Billions will go to TSMC. It’s about the production of semiconductors

Taxpayers’ pockets are deep, but fortunately not Polish ones. The American CHIPS Act can boast of further successes, this time regarding TSMC.

TSMC is a giant on the semiconductor circuit production market, offering the latest lithography and the highest processing capacities. As a result, the services of the Taiwanese have been used by, among others, for years: Apple, AMD, NVIDIA, Intel, MediaTek Whether Qualcomm. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The USA will get 1.6 nm lithography, but later

However, the COVID-19 pandemic has already proven that having all production in Asia is not safe. Therefore both Europe and the United States are trying to make up for years of backlog and convince them to produce “in their own area”. For this purpose they are promised numerous subsidies and tax breaks.

According to the Reuters news agency, TSMC and the US Department of Commerce have finalized an agreement under which the contract chipmaker will receive $6.6 billion in direct financing and $5 billion in loan guarantees under the CHIPS and Science Act to build Fab 21 in Arizona.

According to estimates, the entire facility will require renovation investment of approximately USD 65 billion and includes three different plants that will be built by 2030. The factories will create over 6,000 direct jobs in production and over 20,000 cumulative jobs in construction.

TSMC promises that production in the United States will take place using modern 1.6 nm class lithography. However, this will take place only three years after its launch in Taiwan, and it is planned for the end of 2026. Before FABs in the USA are to operate on 4 and 5 nm processes.

It is worth noting that TSMC’s entry on American soil was mainly the actions of the president’s government Joe Biden. Positions Donald Trump is completely different – although he does not like China, he is also not in favor of paying foreign giants such as TSMC or Samsung.
