They say there are no accidents in the universe. If so, my meeting with Razer Iskur V2 must have been fate. The opportunity to test an armchair from a cult brand arose just when I was nervously looking for a replacement for my rickety Markus from Ikea, which had served me bravely for about seven years. Is replacing a simple but reliable office chair with a fancy gaming product a good idea? I had a few weeks to experience it for myself.

I started testing with a positive attitude – after all, the Razer Iskur V2 is expensive PLN 2,299, so more than four times more than Markus. That means it has to be four times better…right?

Appearance and workmanship

Visually, the Razer Iskur V2 is a piece of crap. The furniture looks massive and this is only partly due to its actual dimensions. Partly this is simply the result of the construction used. We are dealing with a strongly profiled, almost bucket-shaped armchair with a uniform shape.

Razer Iskur V2 is available in three colors: grey, black and black-green. I got the last one, which in theory is the most kitsch. However, to my surprise, even in this variant the design is really subdued. There are no eye-catching patterns and large graphics that are usually associated with gaming gadgets. Here, the most eye-catching accent is the manufacturer’s logo on the headrest. In addition, the green color was reserved mainly for stitching and a few relatively subtle logos.

The upholstery of the armchair in this version is made of synthetic leather and, I must admit, its quality makes a much better impression than this description would suggest. The material has a pleasant texture, is thick and pleasant to the touch (if you like leather-like materials). It also seems very solid and – in theory – it should be stain-resistant and splash-proof.

Fortunately, if you don’t like eco-leather, go for it in the gray version, the manufacturer decided to replace it with textile material. It’s hard for me to comment on its quality here, but I consider the fact that the manufacturer gives us a choice to be a big plus.

The rest of the structure is mainly a combination of solid plastic and metal. In general, the whole thing is solid and well-fitted, although with a few important exceptions. For example, 4D armrests have some play and they sometimes change their position without releasing the lock. Even more irritating are the wheels used. They are made of soft material, which is a plus because it reduces the risk of scratching the panels. Unfortunately, dust and dirt stick to them as if they were covered with honey and, worse still, they lock with almost every movement. These types of ailments are not dramatic, but their presence in a chair costing over PLN 2,000 hurts.

However, it must be admitted that in general I rate the workmanship as a plus. All mechanisms work as they should, and the solidity of the structure can be proven by the fact that the maximum declared The chair’s load capacity is up to 136 kg.

It is also worth mentioning here that the armchair is included in the set headrest in the form of a pillow. It is made of memory foam and a velvet-like material. I’m glad that the manufacturer didn’t forget about such an addition, but personally I immediately threw it away. Firstly, for me it is simply too thick, which combined with the stiff filling made it very difficult to find a comfortable position for it. Two, it is equipped with the simplest belt attachment. As a result, even if such an arrangement had already been found, I could be sure that with the slightest movement of my head, the devil would take it, because everything would shift.

Adjustment range

The main advantage of the Razer Iskur V2 compared to other gaming chairs is to be a range of adjustments that are normally associated with ergonomic chairs. I must admit that in this field the furniture really has something to be proud of.

The seat height can be changed within a range 43.5 – 53.5 cm. The backrest reclines to 152°and to release the mechanism we use a convenient lever located near the seat on the right side of the chair.

We have too armrests adjustable in four dimensions: height, spacing, depth and tilt angle. I won’t deny it, it’s an advantage, but here I encountered some disappointment. As I mentioned, this particular mechanism has relatively large play, and what’s more the jump between individual settings is too large in my opinion. In my case, I ended up having to choose the lesser evil instead of finding the optimal position.

The biggest attraction, however, is adjustable lumbar support and here Razer really deserves praise. We can change its height and depth using two knobs located on the sides of the chair. The process of selecting the settings itself is a bit irritating. When we sit in the chair, the markings on the knobs are invisible and the differences in individual settings are very subtle. It takes a bit of blind fussing before you figure out how to use them. In turn, we will know in a dozen or so minutes whether we managed to shoot with the right positioning – if our back doesn’t hurt after that time, it’s probably good.

However, it must be admitted that just supporting the cross in this form works very well. The adjustment range is wide and we do not lose the impression of a solid, homogeneous structure of the chair.

Convenience in practice

I have already mentioned something about the comfort of using the Razer Iskur V2. Generally, after about a month of using the chair, I can confidently say that it is very comfortable, but there are a few things you need to keep in mind.

First of all, proper adjustment of the chair to suit you is absolutely essential in this case. The bucket construction, hard seat and minimal play make it… there is not much tolerance for inappropriate attitude here.

Theoretically, this is an advantage, but during sessions lasting several hours (e.g. while working) it can become irritating. Even a slight change in position in the chair requires pulling a lever or manually moving the armrests. It is worth taking this into account if, for example, you are planning to buy Iskur for home office use.

The seat may also influence your purchase. Privately, I had no problem with it, but actually it is hard and I have heard opinions that it is a big problem for some users. It could also be a bit longer, because it would provide better support for the thighs.

For balance, I have to praise the armrests, because although I have some reservations about their adjustment range, I do they are basically perfect in themselves. Thanks to their considerable width and delicate recess, they provide excellent support for the elbows, not only when typing on the keyboard.

Each of these small elements makes up the armchair in which I can easily sit through the entire working day and feel virtually no discomfort. Sure, there are a few elements here that I would either solve differently or I see room for improvement, but overall, ergonomics and comfort are the strong point of the test hero.

Summary

In general, the Razer Iskur V2 is a really nice chair that I use very well and… for which I would never pay PLN 2,299. Sure, I can imagine that someone would be willing to spend this amount just for the lumbar support system, because it has a significant impact on ergonomics. However, looking at the whole, I think that the manufacturer overshot the price. From a chair for this money I would expect a bit more attention to detail (locking wheels, looseness in the armrests) and a slightly more thoughtful adjustment range. You know – the dot over the “i”.

Well, as I say, the overpriced price is the only serious criticism of this accessory for me. If you come across the Razer Iskur V2 on sale or you don’t care much about cash, then… this is a really nice choice that your back will surely appreciate.
