Beautiful records were broken in Poland. It’s about electricity
The first weekend of February 2024 was exceptionally good for the Polish energy industry. Wind farms have set several records.
February 3 and 4, 2024 in Poland were marked by quite strong winds. These were unpleasant for us, but they were a driving force for the wind farms. Windmills produced a lot of renewable energy, which established the tthree records – instantaneous, hourly and daily – on the same day.
This is still not the end of the good news. Although there was relatively much energy from renewable sources in the network, it was not necessary to limit the operation of the turbines. Unfortunately, such situations have happened in the past, but last weekend nothing went to waste.
Windmills set a record
Records in generating energy from renewable sources are broken quite often in Poland, but Saturday, February 3, will certainly go down in history thanks to three records. The turbines worked more efficiently and evenly than ever before. Wind farms in Poland are capable of generating a total of approximately 10 GW of power, and throughout Saturday, hour by hour, they generated over 8 GW. That added up to a total 199.1 GWh on Saturday.
Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne reported that the record for instantaneous power was broken on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. The power of the turbines then reached its peak 8504 MW. Within an hour between 12:00 and 13:00 they generated 8,493 MWh electric energy.
On the weekend, the demand for electricity is usually low because industry is not operating. The coal units operated with minimal power (technical minimum), but turning them off would be unprofitable. Fortunately, there was no need to stop the wind turbines. The surplus energy generated was exported to our neighbors, mainly the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
On Sunday, electricity production from Polish wind farms was also high, but did not catch up with Saturday’s results. However, more records will soon be broken as power plants using renewable sources are expanded.
