Bad news from Blizzard. The company cancels the iconic event
It's certain, we won't see BlizzCon 2024 this year. The event is apparently not dead yet and may return someday. What in exchange? Nothing.
BlizzCon is an annual event started in 2005 by the studio Blizzard. This is a physical event taking place in the USA, which is also broadcast online. Its aim is to promote games from such cult series as Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, Hearthstone and Overwatch.
Blizzard will be present at Gamescom 2024
Every year it attracts thousands of fans and cosplayers, for whom unfortunately we have bad news. BlizzCon 2024 will not take place, the event was officially canceled yesterday. However, Blizzard reassures us that it is thinking about the return of the event in future years and is experimenting with other formats.
What about BlizzCon instead? Basically – nothing. Blizzard announced its presence at the German Gamescom 2024 fair. Apart from that, it only mentions e-sports tournaments and announcements of upcoming premieres such as World of Warcraft: The War Within or extensions Diablo IV – Vessels of Hatred.
The Americans do not provide reasons for their decision, so only guesses remain. However, recent years have not been successful for BlizzCon. Due to the pandemic, the event did not take place in 2020 and 2022, and in 2021 it took place only online. It may be that BlizzCon 2023 did not meet the ticket sales targets. Moreover, their games are losing popularity, and some brands (e.g. Overwatch) are dying.
