Attack on the government portal. There is official information

The Cypriot authorities have informed the public that they have successfully repelled a hacker attack on the country’s main government portal. The gov.cy website was the target of several attacks by cybercriminals trying to block the website’s operation.

According to Cypriot government officials, a “quick and decisive response” to the attacks was crucial to stopping them. The only damage the hackers managed to do was to stop the operation of the government website for just a few minutes.

The websites of a local energy supplier and two Cypriot airports were also targeted. In this case, too, the hacker attacks were unsuccessful.

As local authorities point out, all hacker attacks carried out in recent days have been repelled. The criminals did not manage to steal any personal data of users or stop the websites from functioning for longer.

The authorities have not officially commented on who is behind the attacks or what the reason for them would be.
