SW Reaserch research, conducted on behalf of the Megogo platform, shows that almost 30 percent Poles aged 18-65 have ever used illegal video content. In total, 6-7 million citizens of our country use pirated materials.

Poles are pirates

According to the Association of Audiovisual Authors and Producers, this translates into as much as PLN 2.2-2.5 billion in losses per year. This money could be used to finance more films, more projects, a greater variety of content and the development of the overall market.

For this reason, the industry is attacking President Karol Nawrocki, who did not sign the Act on the provision of electronic services, which was supposed to implement the EU Digital Services Act (DSA) in Poland. It provided for the possibility of blocking illegal content. The veto means that this is not possible for now.

And why do Poles pirate so willingly? As much as 47 percent respondents indicate that the price of access to video content is too high. Not much less, as much as 46 percent. the reason given is the lack of access to legal sources. In addition, Poles also talk about convenience and time savings (33.7%), reluctance to pay for multiple subscriptions (32.6%) or the lack of an appropriate offer (32.6%).
