Apple will come to SkyShowtime in April
Later this month, SkyShowtime will offer a new series, which is an adaptation of the New York Times best-selling novel written by Liane Moriarty. In Poland it is known under the title The apple doesn't fall far.
Series Apples Never Fall (The apple doesn't fall far) will from April 23, 2024 to watch exclusively on the SkyShowtime platform. The first three episodes will be available on premiere day, with additional episodes added weekly. There are seven episodes in total.
The novelty is based on a novel that hit the Polish market with a title “The apple doesn't fall far”. It was written by Liane Moriarty. The story follows the seemingly perfect Delaney family. Former coaches Stan (Sam Neill) and Joy (Annette Bening) have sold their renowned tennis school and are ready to enter the golden autumn of their lives. They look forward to spending time with their four adult children (Alison Brie, Jake Lacy, Conor Merrigan-Turner, Essie Randles). However, everything changes when an injured young woman knocks on their door, bringing the adrenaline they have missed into their lives. When Joy unexpectedly disappears one day, her children are forced to take a second look at the so-called their parents' perfect marriage – this time as dark family secrets come to light.
Melanie Marnich, acting writer, showrunner and executive producer, said:
I have never been able to resist a story that is like a vacation that allows you to completely forget about everyday life, and at the same time it tells such a wonderful story about everyday life. This is exactly what the novel “The Apple Falls Hard” by Liane Moriarty is like.
The protagonists of this gripping story, full of secrets and twists, are the Delaneys, whose sense of humor, personal dramas, dreams and complexity made me want to bring this fantastic story to the screen. I feel like their family has something to say to each of us. The events in their lives help us take a closer look at the complex aspects of love, the status of a long-term marriage, and their attempts to find themselves both within and outside the family. I found it fascinating to write about the real, adult issues the Delaneys face, such as the painful sacrifices parents sometimes make to protect their marriage and family. We also take a no-holds-barred look at what life is like as a working mother and wife as we follow Joy deep into the mystery that is at the heart of this story.
Overall, Apples Never Fall is an honest series about what it's like to be part of an incredibly complicated family. Which is basically every family… We often said in the writers' room: “Something really dark and evil could happen at the Delaneys' and we'd still like to come over for a drink.”
Thank you to everyone who is waiting for this series. We hope you like it.
David Heymana, executive producer, added:
“The Apple Does Not Fall Far” is one of Liane Moriarty's best novels. I am proud and extremely grateful for the opportunity to bring this work to the screen. Watching the Delaney family – who behind the mask of the so-called the ideal family hides a whole lot of secrets – sometimes it is ghastly funny, at other times it is painful and moving. However, it constantly keeps us in suspense. Liane's characters are vivid and complex, and the story she tells shows that those we love most can hurt us the most. For me, this is the perfect recipe for a gripping TV series. With the wonderful showrunner Melanie Marnich and an outstanding cast – including Annette Bening and Sam Neill – we managed to create a moving and emotional adaptation of the literary original.
