Apple M4 Max crushes Intel’s flagship CPU. This is how much they differ in performance
New Apple computers with the M4 processor will premiere on November 8. Meanwhile, performance tests of the M4 Max systems have just appeared – they checked how they compare with rivals from Intel and AMD.
M4 Max beats Intel Ultra 9 285K significantly
YouTube channel Max Tech just did a processor performance comparison M4 Pro and M4 Max, which are paired with Intel Ultra 9 285K and AMD Ryzen 9950X.
It is worth mentioning that we are talking about Apple processors here, which are intended for laptops and compared to desktop CPUs from Intel and AMD. In Geekbench 6 The M4 Pro achieved a score of 3,925 points in single-core operations, where Intel Ultra 9 285K scored 3450 and AMD Ryzen 9 9950X – 3359 points. What’s more, The M4 Pro is clocked at 4.5 GHz while the Intel and AMD chips are clocked at 5.7 GHz.
The 14-core Apple M4 Pro processor in multi-core performance achieves only a slightly lower result than the 24-core Intel Core Ultra 9 285K (22,669 points vs. 23,024 points), and exceeds the 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 9950 X (20,550 points .).
However, the highest of Apple’s processors for 2024: the 16-core M4 Max noticeably outperformed (4,060 points) Intel (3,450 points) and AMD (3,359 points) in single-core operations and significantly exceeded them in multi-core operations: 26,675 points. versus 23,024 for Intel and 20,550 for AMD.
To sum up, M4 Max compared to Intel Ultra 9 285K has 17% higher performance in single-core operations and 16% higher performance in multi-core operations.
It is worth emphasizing that these are not the most advanced M4 systems, because there is also M4 Ultra, which will appear in 2025 in Mac Studio and Mac Pro.
