Apple is losing money from the Chinese. iPhone 18 Pro like Oppo and Vivo
More and more is known about the next generation of Apple phones, and the latest leaks show that the iPhone 18 Pro will receive, as an addition to the cameras, external teleconverter for a telephoto lens. Such an optical accessory is not completely new in the world of smartphones, but it would be a big change in Apple’s approach – instead of relying solely on built-in optics and computer processing, the company would offer an official module that expands the camera’s capabilities.
The leak was caused by the Smart Pikachu leakster known from Weibo, who claims to be Apple tests teleconverters for the iPhone 18 Pro series. For now, however, there is no specific technical data – it is not known what focal length multiplier such a converter would offer or what its integration with the iOS system and the camera application would look like. It is also worth emphasizing that the source appears more often in leaks from the Android world, and its effectiveness in Apple-related topics is not yet fully verified.
Vivo, Oppo, even Honor have it….
The idea of a teleconverter itself is not new – it is additional optical module mounted on the telephoto lenswhich multiplies its focal length instead of digitally enhancing the frame. In the mobile world, they have developed it the most recently Vivo and Oppo. Vivo in the model X200 Ultra (and also the X300 Pro) offers a 2.35x teleconverter, which turns an 85mm periscope telephoto lens (approx. 3.7x) into about 200mm, or roughly 8.3x, of optical zoom. Oppo in Find X9 Pro goes even further – the Hasselblad 3.28x teleconverter transforms 70 mm (3z) into approximately 230 mm, which corresponds to approximately 10x zoom, and both companies combine this with lossless cropping on the matrix to reach even 16x and 20x zooms of higher quality than typical digital zoom. Honor also intends to introduce its teleconverter.
The leaks also included other interesting reports about the iPhone 18 Pro cameras, such as: optical system with variable aperture. However, there is still a lot of time until the premiere of the 18 series, so it is worth looking at these leaks as an early insight into what Apple is testing in the laboratories, and not as an announcement of functions scheduled for 2026.
