AOC and Philips want to please everyone. These monitors are intended to help them
After winning first place at the end of the last quarter of 2023 in the gaming monitor market, AOC plans to expand further. A new product strategy and several new solutions help expand the group of monitor users
AOC presented new monitors in Valencia that are intended to win the hearts of gamers – both very advanced and beginners. TELEPOLIS.PL, as the only editorial office from Poland, had the opportunity to see this equipment live.
Cosmic 540 Hz
The manufacturer focuses on dividing the equipment on two axes. The first one is, of course, the price. The second, more interesting division is the positioning of gaming monitors depending on the gaming style. So on one side we have the new AGON PRO models. For example, the AG246FK will have a 24.1-inch display with a TN matrix and a refresh rate of 540 Hz. The suggested price is less than EUR 700. In turn, for almost half as much, i.e. EUR 450, we will get the AG256FS model with a 24.5-inch diagonal, with a Fast IPS matrix and a refresh rate of 390 Hz. Both of these devices will definitely appeal to fans of e-sports games, where reaction time is important. Each of these models will also be factory calibrated at Delta E < 2. The premiere is expected in July this year.
The company also does not forget about players with a smaller budget. New products from AOC Gaming have been prepared for these people. In addition to the already available models, four new 27-inch models and one with a 31.5-inch diagonal will be available for sale in July and August. These will be refresh rates of 280 Hz with FHD (1920×1080) or 180 Hz with QHD (2560 × 1440) resolution. The 31.5-inch model is available only in the latter version. In each case, a Fast VA matrix was used. The price range is EUR 219-239 for the 27-inch models and EUR 279 for the bigger brother.
Evnia goes mainstream
There is also a small restart for the Evnia brand. After introducing it to the market, the manufacturer now wants to break into the mainstream with these monitors. But the brand will also offer some curiosities for players with the highest demands. This is, for example, the 8000 series, where we can find OLED displays and very good color reproduction. In May, there will be a huge, slightly curved, 49-inch model with a DQHD resolution (32:9, 5120×1440) and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. The price is also quite high, as it will amount to almost 1,000 euros. An alternative may be the 34-inch OLED model from the 6000 series, which has a WQHD resolution (2560×1440) and a refresh rate of 175 Hz. Premiere in June, and the price is almost EUR 800.
However, most people will probably be interested in the offer of the 3000 and 5000 series, in which players will receive equipment for not too much money, which, according to the manufacturer, will be enough for home fun. Both series offer the widest range of possibilities when it comes to selecting specific requirements. These include sizes 23.8″, 27″, 31.5' and 34″. The price mentioned above will be important. In the case of the smallest size with a Fast IPS matrix, FHD resolution (1920×1080) and 180 Hz refresh rate, we will pay only 160 euros. The largest model with a Fast VA matrix, WQHD resolution (2560×1440) and the same refresh rate as before will cost 200 euros more.
It is worth adding that both models from the 8000 and 6000 series will have an AmbiGlow backlight system, which is intended to provide an even better visual experience. Evnia, as the first brand in the world, will also offer the possibility of cooperation of this solution with the Windows Dynamic Lighting application.
First impressions
The equipment itself is certainly impressive at first glance. I was even more pleased when I saw two games from Poland on the monitors presented in Valencia. Personally, the most attention was drawn to curved monitors, which allow for incredible immersion. Watching Cyberpunk 2077 on the huge Evnia 8000 series was spectacular and allowed for a very cinematic experience. It's hard for me to say more because of the short time I had to “play” with this giant, but it was certainly hard to ignore it. I think it's time to buy a bigger desk…
On the other hand, high refresh rate is certainly something that will interest fans of online gaming. Even the level of 170-280 is really a lot and in a way I am glad that such results are available at better and better prices. Whether the 540 Hz level is really necessary is certainly a field for broader discussion. However, an OLED panel at an affordable price would certainly be useful in a gaming monitor. The threshold below EUR 400 is still difficult to overcome, although, according to the AOC team, there are some chances to change this situation. However, a lot in this case depends on the production capabilities of suppliers of this type of solutions.
