Android 17 will introduce changes to the interface. Don’t look for glasses

In Android 17, Google introduces much more blur effects in the system interface. Thus, the company continues the evolution initiated with Material 3 Expressive, which appeared in Android 16 QPR1.

Android 17 and more blurring

The changes include, among others: the volume panel, power menu and other interface elements will become translucent. In this way, they will partially reveal what is happening in the background, e.g. other applications or wallpaper.

In the volume panel, the pill with the slider and switches will be transparent, colored with a Dynamic Color motif. It looks similar in notifications and quick settings from the previous update. The effect also works in applications, allowing you to see what is under the slider, and the whole thing is supposed to be more subtle than Liquid Glass in iOS.

Android 17 is a largely cosmetic visual update. Most of the interface remains unchanged functionally, and the blur mainly affects system elements, without affecting third-party applications. It is not known whether Google will extend the effect to Material 3 applications or reserve it only for the native UI.
