Android 17 like iOS. This feature is a revolution

Android 17 introduces a new feature called “handoff”. It will allow you to smoothly transfer application activities between devices, e.g. from a phone to a tablet, Chromebook or other Android device.

Google describes Handoff as a background feature and a set of APIs that enable it “start an app activity on one Android device and continue it on another.”

In this case, the launcher and taskbar should display activities from nearby devices available for hijacking. If the same native application is installed on a second device, the user is taken directly to the appropriate screen.

If a given application is not available on the target device, the system will try to use “app-to-web handoff” as a bypass, i.e. it will open the related web version of the given website. The feature is intended to work in a variety of applications, including continuing to write an email, finishing a document, or switching between devices while working on the same activity.

However, handoff won’t work for every application. Much depends on developers who will have to implement it in their solutions. Google has not yet revealed when the new feature will appear in Android and has not provided full documentation. This does not change the fact that it will significantly bring the Android ecosystem closer to the solutions known from Apple systems.
