An unusual failure in the InPost application. Nobody expected this
There was a failure in the InPost application, which turned out to be quite unusual and unexpected. Due to an error, it was possible to receive a parcel belonging to someone else.
The company immediately intervened and took corrective measures. Fortunately, the problem affected a relatively small number of customers.
Confusion with InPost parcels
The failure was first reported by an InPost customer from Łódź. The woman was surprised that the parcel she was waiting for was redirected. She was sure that she hadn’t made this decision herself and hadn’t clicked anything in the application. It turned out that strangers had displayed her phone number in the application and parcel locker details. They could easily pick up someone else’s parcel as a result of this error. It turned out that her case was not the only one. The Downdetector website recorded as many as 47 such cases.
InPost confirmed a failure that resulted in unauthorized access to these users’ data. The company immediately blocked the collection of their shipments.
This was a technical issue affecting a very small group of users. We identified 47 such customers (currently InPost has 18 million active users) and then blocked the possibility of receiving these parcels by third parties. Parcels will be delivered to your home address or have already been delivered correctly
– said Wojciech Kędziołka, spokesman for InPost.
The outage began on Tuesday and that’s when reports started coming in. The case is now being investigated for a data breach.
