A promotional video of the Pixel 8 has leaked. This one focuses on one point in particular: the removal of audio noise in videos.

With computational photography, Google has taken a step ahead of its competitors in the field of smartphone photography. In video, however, the brand is still well behind Apple… For the moment.

Better sound in videos

On X (ex-Twitter), someone by the handle EZ (@EZ8622647227573) posted what appears to be a Pixel 8 promotional video. case the usual codes of the Mountain View firm.

The video in question highlights a new feature of the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro: the audio magic eraser (Audio Magic Eraser). According to the video, this allows you to remove parasitic noise from a video in just a few clicks in order to keep only the interesting sounds.

On the example, we see a young woman skateboarding, to the sound of rolling wheels of the skateboard on the asphalt. A click on the audio magic eraser and now it is possible to adjust the sensitivity of the sound to erase the unpleasant frequencies. The application seems able to recognize – certainly thanks to AI – different types of sounds: noises, people or even music. Each can then be reduced or reinforced as the user wishes.

The magic of Google at work

Almost every year, Google brings a new feature of this kind to its smartphones. Night mode, portrait mode, digital zoom, the magic eraser… Pixels have become perfect companions for capturing a moment as we would like to remember it, and not necessarily as it really is. If this is true in photos, it was time for it to also happen in video, which the ever-increasing power of the chips integrated into our smartphones now allows us to do.

A new color

In addition to the audio magic eraser, this promotional video also highlights another novelty for the Pixel 8 Pro (recognizable by its three lenses): a sky blue color. Recall that this shade is already available on the Pixel 7a, alongside black, white and orange “coral“.

It remains to be seen whether it is indeed a leak or a very well done counterfeit. Probable answer in October, during the Made by Google conference (which is not yet precisely dated).
