A way to deal with exploding ATMs. Poles: impossible for us

A way to deal with exploding ATMs. Poles: impossible for us

ATM blowing up is still a pressing problem in many countries. The Netherlands dealt with it cleverly, using an unusual method.

We hear a lot about ATMs being blown up. However, those who imagine this practice as a rain of flying money may be severely disappointed. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as spectacular as in the movies. We remember the event from Olsztyn, when bandits blew up one of the ATMs. Unfortunately, it probably won’t end there. Testing existing security measures, or even their absence, in cash machines continues to tempt criminals. Not only in Poland, but throughout Europe. For example, in Germany, 500 ATMs are blown up every year. In the Netherlands, criminals also had room for abuse. Recently, however, they were arrested.

What about security?

It turns out that some security measures fail. In the case of dough-rolled banknotes, even paint that does not “paint” all the money very well fails. However, she decided to go against the bandits The Netherlands decided to use glue for protection. It’s about gluing banknotes.

If the cash box is damaged, the money is glued into one block (lump). You can’t separate them because they tear apart.

– TVP Info reports.

This method is banned in Germany, but The Netherlands started practicing it 3 years ago and has recently been doing quite well with this type of attacks. The adhesive system is called Glue IBNS. The number of attacks per year dropped from 110 to 3-4. The criminal cannot use the stolen money because it is glued together into a useless lump. And if there is no reward, it is not worth the effort.

We will also introduce this product in other countries early next year.

– says Robin Bijland, technology director of the Dutch company Mactwin Security.

Recall that The Netherlands was once a mecca for pyromaniacs. There was a “school” in Utrecht educating specialists in this field. After it was no longer profitable for them in this country, they decided to seek their fortune elsewhere.

Is the glue method impossible in Poland?

In Poland, in recent years, the number of attempts to blow up ATMs ranges from 70 to 130 per year. Theoretically, each ATM should be thoroughly secured. The idea of glue does not arouse enthusiasm among experts in our country.

Gluing is one of the forms of neutralizing banknotes, just like dyeing them. In Polish conditions, it is not possible to use it because the National Bank of Poland requires that the exact number of banknotes subjected to the neutralization process can be determined. If they are glued, this is impossible.

– explains Krzysztof Kołodziejczyk, vice-president of POFOG.
