A trap for a Pole. It’s best to avoid such an account
Online banking accounts that offer payments in foreign currencies
Officers from Ostrowiec received a report from a 60-year-old woman who was a victim of exactly this type of fraud. She found it on the Internet an application that offers the opportunity to set up an account with the option of paying in foreign currencies. She clicked on the registration link and began the process of creating this type of account.
At some point, when trying to scan my ID card, it appeared on the website technical error message. That was the moment when the woman was contacted by a stranger who offered to help her complete the entire process. The person who set up the account was happy with the help offered and started following the “technical assistant’s” instructions.
New account – registration process and deposit of funds
Together they managed to set up an account. After completing the registration, the woman transferred the amount of PLN 3,000 to the newly opened account.
The account turned out to be a tool for extorting money
Unfortunately, the next day there was no trace of the money. The entire amount she had deposited on the app the day before was gone. That was the moment she realized she had fallen victim to fraud.
The police warn against this type of fraud and emphasize:
We must be aware that safety in the virtual space depends on us. No system security measures will help us if we do not exercise due caution and common sense.
