A strange decision by AMD. These are the new X870 processors and boards
AMD has already presented new Ryzen 9000 series processors. Together with them, motherboards with the X870 chipset will debut, but we will have to wait a while for them.
A few days ago, at Computex 2024, AMD presented a whole range of new processors. These included desktop systems from the Granite Ridge series, i.e. Ryzen 9000. New motherboards with the X870 chipset should also go on sale with them, but The Reds made a strange decision and we will have to wait for them.
New AMD X870 motherboards
According to reports from the German website Hadrwareluxx, Ryzen 9000 processors and X870/X870E motherboards will not debut at the same time. The latter will be available in stores with a delay. How big? We don't know the answer to this question. We only know that the processors will appear on store shelves in July.
Is this a big problem? Yes and no. On the one hand, the new Granite Ridge processors will be fully compatible with motherboards that are equipped with 600 series chipsets, so compatibility will not be a problem. On the other hand, impatient users who will buy new Ryzens would certainly like to use them on new motherboards. These don't offer radical changes, but what's new is new.
AMD has not revealed much information about the X870 and X870E (Extreme) boards yet. These are to support, among others, USB 4 connectors, have higher EXPO memory clocks and support PCIe 5.0 graphics cards.
