A mouse for ages, and on top of that, on a subscription basis. That’s Logitech’s plan
Logitech is working on a mouse that would last a lifetime. There’s a catch, though, because using it would probably require a regular, monthly fee.
Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber recently gave an interview to The Verge. It contains some interesting information. It turns out that the Swiss brand is working on a computer mouse that would last forever. It can be compared to old watches that — despite being decades old — still work. However, such fun would not come cheap.
The Eternal Mouse from Logitech
Work on the rodent is already underway at the Logitech Innovation Center and the device’s premiere is not as distant as it might seem. Hanneke Faber revealed that the mouse would be slightly heavier than standard models. It would also be significantly more expensive. During the conversation, the amount of $200 was mentioned, but it was more of a proposal from the journalist conducting the interview than from the head of Logitech.
Of course, it is difficult to expect any electronic equipment to withstand many years of use without any failure. Logitech may also have a solution for this in the form of easily accessible spare parts and the possibility of carrying out repairs yourself, at home.. However, this would require designing the mouse in such a way that replacing individual parts would be really easy and quick.
In addition, Hanneke Faber revealed another method from Logitech that users may not necessarily like. This involves paying a monthly subscription fee for access to the latest software updates. The company’s CEO admitted that this model could be used to introduce an everlasting mouse, but we don’t know any details.
