It’s about safety

Representative The bank explains this decision by caring for the customer and ensuring appropriate transparency of communication and security.

A few weeks ago, an English bank ordered employees to conduct all business communication through official channels approved by the bank. Now he has gone a step further by blocking other messengers on employees’ devices.

WhatsApp and Messenger are the nightmare of banks

Communication via unofficial channels such as WhatsApp or Messenger is a nightmare for banks. The privacy settings of these messengers make it difficult to retrieve sent messages, which turns out to be a big problem when communicating with customers, especially when they later file complaints or grievances.

Like many other companies, we accept the use of only official communication channels for business matters, whether internally or with clients or business partners.

NatWest’s actions are not an isolated incident. Many English and American banks are introducing similar restrictions after a series of fines paid for shortcomings in archiving customer conversations. In the last few years, US banks such as JPMorgan, Chase, Bank of America and Citygroup alone have paid over $2.8 billion in such penalties.

In Great Britain, however, banks are under constant supervision of the Financial Conduct Authority, after Morgan Stanley was recently fined for failing to archive customer conversations.

The British have been sensitive to WhatsApp messages since the scandal that broke out over former Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s communications with cabinet member Penny Mordaunt. Then, over 5,000 business messages disappeared from the then prime minister’s phone.
