Żart sprzed lat może zamienić się w realny produkt

A joke from years ago can turn into a real product

NVIDIA's joke from 2017 may soon become a reality. At least that's what the company itself suggests.

In 2017, before the introduction of artificial intelligence to graphics cards and the first RTX models, NVIDIA made a joke. This one was created for April Fool's Day. Today, this joke may become real, although in a slightly different form.

Once a joke, now an everyday occurrence?

The joke was a small pendrive in the shape of a GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card. The device was called GeForce GTX G-Assist and was intended to be an intelligent assistant for gamers. Artificial intelligence was supposed to allow, among other things, to play for us when we suddenly have to leave the computer, help us defeat difficult bosses, e.g. in Dark Souls, or remind us about proper hydration and eating.

7 years ago it was just a joke, but today, when machine learning and artificial intelligence have become a permanent fixture on our computers, such a vision no longer seems so unlikely. Moreover, NVIDIA itself recalled a joke from 2017 on its social media, informing that “the future is never too far…”.

Many people treated it as a mysterious announcement of something the company was working on. Of course, we shouldn't expect artificial intelligence to play for us and complete difficult bosses. However, the Greens could create some kind of AI assistant that could make players' lives easier in some way. After all, GeForce RTX graphics cards are equipped with special Tensor units that they can use for complex calculations.

What is it really like? We will probably find out in a few days, during Computex 2024.
