The Polish tourist was taken to hospital in Palermo, Sicily. The 20-year-old was there as a result of an unpleasant accident. In her mouth an electronic cigarette exploded. The Italian media is writing about the whole matter. Ansa news agency reports that the explosion caused serious injuries. It was most likely caused by a short circuit in the e-cigarette battery.
The young woman was spending her vacation in Sicily. She was sitting on a bench in the popular tourist spot Piazza Oliviella in Palermo, smoking an e-cigarette. Suddenly, the device exploded. The e-cigarette made an incredible noise and a cloud of black smoke appeared. People passing by saw the whole thing and thought it was a firecracker or gunshot.
Help for injured Poland was called immediately. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated and observed.
First findings indicate that the cause of the e-cigarette explosion was a battery short circuit. The police will determine whether the entire incident was the result of a product defect or its improper use.
