Free text messages got her in trouble. This wasn’t what she expected
The woman received information that her friend was taking part in a competition organized by one of the store chains. In fact, it was a fraudster who took over a friend’s account. Impersonating a “friend”, he contacted her via instant messenger and asked for her phone number. According to him, he only needed the codes from the alleged “free text messages” to confirm participation in the lottery. The woman received an SMS with a code, which she passed on to her alleged friend. After a while, it turned out that the fate turned out to be lucky and the winnings in the competition amounted to PLN 2,000. The “friend” was so generous that she immediately suggested dividing the prize. However, in order to transfer money, you had to provide another code, this time for BLIK payments. It was allegedly used to make a transfer.
The woman had some doubts, but she finally shared the BLIK code. She did everything as her “friend” wanted. Unfortunately, instead of winnings, money began to disappear from her bank account. When she lost PLN 3,000, she realized that she had fallen victim to fraud.
Before sharing a BLIK code, check the sender’s credibility. A moment of your inattention could cost you money.
