Without pomp and with brilliant dialogues. The HBO series is a hit
Rooster – university and various crises
“Rooster” presents a distorting mirror of the realities on a university campus. And that’s good, the viewer can smile from ear to ear at times. So completely relaxed. We quickly realize that the title of the series is also the title of a book series of bestsellers written by the protagonist Greg Russo (played by Steve Carell). The series begins when Russo appears as a guest lecturer at the university where his daughter works. Her father decides to support her after her husband left her for a PhD student and she now finds herself in a crisis. And even though the writer doesn’t quite fit in with the university pomposity, he is quickly persuaded by the rector to stay at the university a little longer.
“Rooster” charms from the first minute
And anyone who expected a quiet action from “Rooster” may feel slightly disappointed. In the series, everything happens incredibly fast, and individual events seem to happen at breakneck speed. At the same time, almost every scene is full of characteristic humor – slightly situational and sometimes awkward. And “making fun of” the lecturer-student relationship is a daily occurrence here. But one thing is amazing – the series is surprising. And this is really very difficult now. However, “Rooster” is original and quite unpredictable. And this is a really big advantage. Dialogues are also his strong point. Sometimes you may have the impression that you are participating in a stand-up comedy show.
Let’s hope that the next episodes will maintain the level. It’s nice to relieve tension after a whole day in front of the TV screen, even for just 30 minutes.
“Rooster” premieres on HBO Max on March 8, in Poland on March 9, 2026. Subsequent episodes (10 of them) will appear every week.
