Apple M5 Pro and M5 Max debut. A lot of changes and a big jump in performance
Apple presented two new architecture-based systems ARMor more precisely M5 Pro and M5 Max. These are the ones that will go to the refreshed MacBook Pros and are to be designated a new level of performance in the professional laptop segment. The manufacturer announces a significant increase in computing power, improved graphics and even greater possibilities in tasks related to artificial intelligence.
It won’t be cheap. Prices in Poland start from PLN 10,999
The heart of the M5 Pro is 18-core CPUbased on a new solution called “Fusion Architecture”. Two systems made in. are combined here 3nm lithography. In practice, this means higher transistor density and better energy efficiency without compromising on performance. We are dealing with a 6+12 configuration, although Apple has changed the nomenclature. The previously known Performance cores are now available “Super Cores”.
According to the declaration, in the case of the processor we will get even 2.5x higher multi-threaded performance compared to M1 Pro and M1 Max. This is complemented by a graphics system with 20 computational units, in which ray tracing support has been improved and more than 4x performance increase for AI tasks over the previous generation.
In the case of the M5 Max we also get an 18-core CPU section, but we are talking about a twice as powerful GPU with 40 computational units. As a result, performance on graphics tasks is up to 20% faster than M4 Max and up to 120% higher than M1 Max.
Additionally, differences will occur in the case of unified RAM. Apple M5 Pro supports up to 64 GB with bandwidth up to 307 GB/s, and M5 Max supports up to 128 GB with 614 GB/s. This will be important not only when processing photos or video materials. LLM command processing is 4x faster than M4 Pro and M4 Max, and AI image generation is 8x faster compared to M1 Pro and M1 Max
Interested? Pre-sale of MacBook Pro M5 Pro/Max laptops starts today, and they will be available in stores on March 11. However, it definitely won’t be cheap. The 14-inch model starts in Poland with a price starting from PLN 10,999and a 16-inch one is an expense at least PLN 13,499. Those looking for something cheaper should take a look at the MacBook Air M5 series.
