Telegram has become a paradise for fraudsters, but no one can beat Facebook
Telegram is chasing the Meta group’s platforms
The published data show that fraud on Telegram increased by 233% in one year. Currently, every fifth scam reported to Revolut has its origins in this messenger. Criminals take advantage of the private and encrypted nature of the application to manipulate users.
Despite such a dynamic increase in competition, the leader in abuse remains the Meta group. Platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp Whether Instagram are the source 44% of all frauds in the world. In Poland this indicator is even higher and amounts to 49%.
Fake job offers are a new threat
They remain the most common form of fraud shopping fraud. They constitute 57% of all reported cases. However, the fastest growing category are scams “for a job offer”. Their number on a global scale increased in 2025 almost three times.
They invariably cause the greatest financial losses investment fraud. Victims of such actions lose on average 12 times more money than in the case of shopping fraud. In Poland, the average loss on a fake investment was in 2025 PLN 21,000.
Platforms make money from scam ads
The report cites data from Juniper Research regarding revenues of social networking sites from broadcasting harmful content. These platforms have made money in Europe approximately PLN 18 billion by displaying fraudulent ads. In Poland alone this amount reached PLN 725 million.
Revolut calls for regulations to force technology companies to be more accountable. According to bank representatives, financial institutions cannot solve this problem on their own. There needs to be a legal obligation for platforms to block dangerous content at source.
New features to protect your money
Revolut has implemented several new tools to fight criminals. One of them is Street Modewhich secures user funds outside of trusted locations. If someone tries to transfer money elsewhere, the system introduces an hour’s delay and requires additional biometrics.
Another new thing is Scam Busteri.e. a bot based on artificial intelligence. The tool analyzes conversation data and warns the customer about a specific type of fraud. Additionally, the call verification function inside the application allows you to check whether the interlocutor is actually a bank employee.
