1.7 billion Android users have a problem. Phone needs to be replaced
Over 40 percent Android devices are more vulnerable to malware and spyware. This is because Google no longer provides security updates for them. What can you do in such a situation? Buy a new smartphone.
A billion phones to replace
Google is currently releasing security updates for devices running Android 13 and newer. The problem is that, according to available statistics, it is only 57.9 percent. all phones and tablets. The remaining 42.1 percent devices use Android 12 or older. This means that they are exposed to possible threats.
It is estimated that there are approximately 4 billion Android users worldwide. If this were the case, it would mean that almost 1.7 billion of them use a device that is potentially dangerous.
For comparison, as much as 90 percent iPhone users use the two latest versions of the iOS operating system, i.e. iOS 26 and iOS 18 (Apple changed the way of marking, hence the difference in numbers). We know where the differences come from. There are thousands of Android phone models, and there are only a few dozen iPhones at most. This does not change the fact that the difference is colossal.
Google, of course, ensures that owners of older models still benefit from Play Protect protection. At the same time, the company recommends replacing the device with a new one.
