Prices are about to skyrocket. Producers decided to limit production
The artificial intelligence craze has sent the prices of consumer RAM modules skyrocketing. Currently, the cheapest 16 GB DDR5 set costs around PLN 1,700. And although SSDs have also become more expensive, not that much. But according to the latest reports, this will soon change.
This seems like a cold calculation to increase margins
According to Korean sources, giants like Samsung and SK hynix plan to limit NAND production this yearto focus on the bones DRAM. Of course, we are talking mainly about memories HBM for AI accelerators. Both companies have already revised their forecasts for 2026.
The paradox is that news of the cuts comes at a time when NAND has become an important element of the AI supply chain. After the presentation of the ICMS platform from NVIDIA, which emphasizes the expansion of KV Cache memory in agent systems, the demand is only growing.
The upcoming Rubin platform is estimated to consume a significant portion of the global NAND supply – Rack solutions alone could consume a staggering 115.2 EB (115,200,000 TB) of storage by 2027which means huge pressure on the entire market.
In such conditions, it seems that the Koreans are limiting production a move designed to increase contract prices and maximize margins. The problem is that the biggest players in the AI industry, including NVIDIA and AMDthey already have secured NAND supplies for several quarters ahead, so the burden of change may once again fall on the consumer segment.
In fact, the first signals are already visible. SSD prices have gone up significantly in recent months, we are talking about even several hundred zlotys for basic media. For example, Kingston KC3000 1 TB increased in price from approximately PLN 299 to PLN 599, and GOODRAM PX600 1 TB from PLN 229 to PLN 499.
