18,000 euros less than a Tesla, but (almost) as efficient

MG has just lifted the veil in France on a new electric car, the MG4 Xpower. On the program: an insane power of 435 hp, to come and hunt on the lands of the Tesla Model 3 Performance. But with a totally different price, since we are talking about a difference of around 18,000 euros.

MG has just launched two new MG4s. We have already dealt with the MG4 with long autonomy (Luxury extended autonomy) in another paper, and now here is the MG4 Xpower. The famous performance version that we had already seen in other European countries. This time, the Chinese manufacturer reveals all the French technical data sheet as well as the price. And it is rather a (very) good surprise.

Insane Power

The MG4 Xpower develops a power of 435 hp (320 kW) thanks to two electric motors: one of 204 hp (150 kW) at the front and a second of 245 hp (180 kW) at the rear. It is therefore the first MG4 equipped with all-wheel drive, renowned for improving road holding. The torque is announced for 600 Nm, which is enormous. All this power allows the electric car to bring down 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 200 km/h.

But who says power up, says autonomy down. The MG4 does not inherit the new 77 kWh battery from the long-range version, but from the intermediate, 64 kWh. Which then allows him to announce a range of 385 km on the WLTP mixed cycle. MG promises an electricity consumption of 18.7 kWh / 100 km taking into account the losses linked to recharging.

A quick recharge

And precisely, speaking of recharging, this is done with a power of 140 kW, to go from 10 to 80% in just 26 minutes. The same duration as on the other finishes equipped with this 64 kWh battery. The MG4 has been charging much faster since the 2023 model year made official a few weeks ago.

The MG4 Xpower incorporates new features, such as an electronic differential lock (for all-wheel drive), a launch control (as on a Tesla Model S Plaid or a Porsche Taycan), new 18-inch rims, a specific rocker panel, Alcantara seats and an aluminum pedal set. The color “Hunter Green(a matte green) integrates the color range.

Little icing on the cake: atrack driving data displayappears without further details. A little nod to the track mode of the Tesla Model 3 Performance?

Price and availability

This new electric car is now available to order, at 41,140 euros. It is of course eligible for the ecological bonus of 5,000 euros. For comparison, the Tesla Model 3 Performance, more efficient, with more autonomy and lower consumption, is exchanged new for 53,990 euros.
